Great training, company lacks direction - Manager Suburban Propane Employee Review

Pros

Best in industry training, hands down. The pay and benefits are solid, the staff at the field level are consistently good quality people, ie technicians, drivers reps etc.

Cons

This is a company that is in the process of redefining themselves from their roots as a collection of small locally operated mom and pop propane dealers into a centrally managed corporation. The problem is they have no idea how to accomplish that. As a result, management at the regional level is solely focused on hitting bonus targets for profit margin and have driven the prices up to laughably uncompetitive levels. As customers flock to the doors, the prices get higher -rinse and repeat. A manager at Suburban is responsible for everything from taking customer complaints to delivering fuel to sales calls to repairing dispensers along with everything in between. The general attitude of the employees is terrible because they have watched the business deteriorate over the years. I would not recommend this as a place to work for anyone except for those looking for some good quality paid training.

Pros

Great PTO and flexible scheduling

Cons

Falsified W2s by adding more money to them then I actually made, or never actually paid me what they say they did. Cancelled health immediately instead of running it to the end of the month yet still took the premiums out of my last check. Very low pay for the position. Zero care for employee. Over work since always understaffed. I did the job of at least three people, all the while making less than the new guys that only did one thing. Never promote from within, always hires from outside. No growth in company.
