Decent pay. The children are amazing. Enrichging making a change in their lives.
Cons
Micromanagement to the highest degree, due to a lack of trust of their employees. Zero regards for human capital. You're disposable to them. I found a new job and put in my 2 weeks. The next day they pulled me in the office at the end of the day to tell me that they no longer needed my services and they'll pay me for the next two weeks. No thank you for opening the school or thanks for your hard work this past year. Nothing! Talk about unprofessional. Unrealistic expectations for employees, with a sense that they want to lead employees through fear tactics. Don't expect much positive feedback. I've see teachers ripped apart to the point where they had panic attacks and had to go to the emergency room from the pressure of the job. You'll be commuting all over the 5 bouroughs for meaningless meetings and trainings that can be facilitated over a video conference. Principals lack humility and compassion. Most are young and do not understand the concept of leadership. They are not receptive to feedback and put extreme pressure on teachers and staff to perform or they'll be pushed out. You're held accountable for the silliest things! You'll end up doing things that are against your values and morally wrong for the "mission". Moral is depressing, because of the unreasonable demands and long hours. Sometimes you'll get contacted late nights and/or weekends.
