Upside down business model. No upside/packages for the subs who generate the revenue - Substitute Teacher Swing Education Employee Review

Pros

Flexibility, if it's not Summer, the jobs pay decently, and Swing hasn't over-hired.

Cons

Swing Subs are treated as non-employees with no perks, no benefits (it would be mathematically impossible), and not even a phone call or interview. Ever. Just nasty grams if your timesheet is late. Hey, folks! There's nobody to pay without us, Hello? You offer a 401K on the revenue that I earn to my support but not to me? What?!?!? Swing hires constantly, regardless of demand. This depresses wages and availability of jobs and its a crap shoot that varies wildly, day-by-day so forget about planning. No, shorter days don't pay more per hour as proposed elsewhere. Illogically, in this market, it makes more economic sense to reject long-term requests and gamble nightly. The rates go up the closer you get to the engagement. Invariably, I have had jobs created just for me and seen the rate depressed once I'm verbally committed too, so now I prefer to take my chances. This also means there is no incentive for excellence or to nurture relationships with the school or its students since doing so just means more work for the sub and probably less pay long-term if he/she gets attached. Swing subs also seem to cater almost exclusively to the charters, which at least here, don't treat their subs so well. Not the Swing subs anyway.

Pros

Flexible Lots of opportunities Many schools in my area

Cons

Just like the other review, I noticed that around march/ April they dropped the pay significantly?? Some requests are even below minimum wage and I’m confused why they’re even allowing that to happen. I just don’t understand what happened to them I did also have some negative run ins with staffing at some of the school and unfortunately swing will always take their side no matter what. I learned to just escalate the issues to the school district/ superintendents.
