Pros
I have been with Sylvan for just shy of three years now and have experience working in a business setting for roughly 10 years. I can honestly say that this is one of the best jobs that I have had. There are not many for profit organizations that can offer you a fulfilling experience, one that allows you to grow professionally and support a noble mission. I have been very impressed by the transformation the organization has gone through since I first started. New competitors have emerged almost overnight (Kahn academy for example). However, Sylvan's switch to a digital curriculum in-center, while maintaining a focus on the individual has further instilled my confidence in the organization and Sylvan's leadership. At a corporate level, Sylvan is relatively small considering the number of franchisees that are in the system. One of the pros is that it is a close-knit organization that allows for open communication with the executive team. I also respect the fact that Sylvan does practice what it preaches in regard to community support. I have been involved with several blood drives here, community book drives and service projects where we have helped revamp damaged schools.
Cons
As mentioned above, it's a relatively small organization based on the number of franchise centers within the system. At times, you are spread kind of thin and are asked to wear many hats. I've seen this get the best of people and at times, it can be taxing on myself especially during the busier times in the season.
