Pros

My Experience We have gone through a lot of changes throughout my duration here, from product roadmaps to executive staff members to building additions and seating rearrangements. These changes have often caused major disruptions and timelines to be aggressive or even dropped. Because of all disruptions, employee turnover, and aggressive deadlines, it is understandable why many employees have had negative experiences at times in our company’s past. However, when reevaluating these changes, I can admit that most had to happen. They have made Symbotic a better company, as companies that are afraid of change often crumble. Our current executive staff has announced that they are making a conscious effort to stabilize the company and meet regularly to become more collaborative. As an employee, I hope that Symbotic continues to become more stable and collaborative so that we will reduce past mistakes, reduce major staff and product disruptions, and establish more employee initiatives. Appreciation Our executive staff and managers expect employees to work hard to make Symbotic the most viable solution on the market. They will also tell us they are appreciative on the fly for a job well done. In the summertime they will sometimes reward top-performers with a pair of Red Sox tickets. Although this is sufficient, I would like the company to push for company-wide standards to be sure that recognition is fair across all positions and departments. Work/Life Balance There is an informal 9-5 working schedule and an expectation to occasionally travel for most employees to customer sites. Most employees who work on product releases tend to put in significantly more time without being asked and are often recognized for that. Similarly, the sales and solution teams often put in extra time to meet last-minute deadlines to win over potential customers and tend to travel more often. There are a few teams that have slightly different hours, such as customer support or technician roles, but the hours are stated up front.

Cons

I recommend that potential candidates ask about their concerns based on our online reviews. Often you will receive a more balanced response and find out what improvements have been made within those areas. I believe that we have improved significantly over the years and will continue to hire employees willing to work through change and who enjoy helping a company grow.

Pros

Interesting technology and exposure to advanced automation systems. Opportunity to work on complex engineering projects.

Cons

Poor work-life balance with high expectations and little flexibility. Communication from leadership and the general manager was very limited, making it difficult to stay aligned. There was also a lack of transparency around performance expectations and job security. Even when performing well and fully understanding the environment and workflows, employees could be let go without warning or a second chance. This creates unnecessary turnover and results in lost knowledge, requiring time and resources to retrain new engineers who are unfamiliar with the systems.
