It’s great that you’re seeing the culture thrive around you!
As a company who provides IT experts through government contracts, we have made some strategic choices. The first is to focus on investing in our employees. As such, we would rather spend money on our employees (and their salaries and benefits) than expensive hardware or software licenses. Another strategic choice we’ve made is to, adopt an “open source software first” policy, which has allowed us to redirect money to employee benefits and save money for our government customers. In addition, TCG has directly contributed to OSS projects (such as Drupal and FusionForge).
As we continue to grow, TCG can improve delegation and decision-making. (“Because I said so” is never a good justification. As management we should always explain our positions so that we can collaborate and learn.) We are looking into adopting Technology Business Management metrics to identify how our internal IT investments impact the company, allowing us to define and justify budget allocations and cost delegation. But, in the end, our emphasis (and thus our spending) will continue to be on our employees and their contributions to the customer.
