Pros

You will learn a lot about the domain within IT that you are assigned to. They want everyone to be experts in their space so it becomes second nature to recruit your specific skill set.

Cons

HORRIBLE culture. TEKSystems purposefully breaks individuals down once they join the organization. It’s almost like a form of hazing. Account managers will ignore your submissions, your calls will be picked apart, etc. They expect you to throw away anything you’ve ever learned in the past and adopt their way of thinking. The individuals who they want to succeed are chosen from the very start of their career there; everyone else is expected to grind and “prove” they deserve to work there. There’s this unspoken expectation that you should work 60+ hours a week as a new recruiter. They want you to think like a work horse and ultimately be a work horse. Tenured individuals literally do whatever they want with no questions asked whether they are performing or not. Leadership is TERRIBLE. They pretend to be genuine and use the aspects that they know about your personal life against you. It’s so bad. All work events surround drinking... even training. You’re expected to drink but don’t get drunk cause then you’ll get fired. Majority of my office was on some type of upper drugs to make it through the week. I could seriously go on and on and on about how awful the culture is. Stay away; it’s really not worth it. There’s so many other recruiting agencies that won’t suck the life out of you.

Pros

- Decent pay to start. - Account manager is responsive, engaging, and a serious advocate for you and your contract. - Gain access to Udemy Business to build more skills.

Cons

- The benefits suck. - High recruiter turnover with highly variable experience trying to work with them-- some are good, most are not. - Once you are placed, you will be promised regular meetings and then never hear from the recruiter again. - Trying to find a new contract if you are unhappy with your current placement is nearly impossible and I don't believe they are incentivized to help you move at all. - You have to manually request a raise and depending on how you negotiated your contract, you may or may not have the ability to receive one. - There is a cap to how much they will pay you for the contract so even if you work that position 4 years, once you hit that cap you are stuck. I originally submitted my resume with TekSystems when I had finished my degree and never heard back. Many years later, I was approached on LinkedIn by a TekSystems recruiter for a position and he had no idea I was in the system previously. Working with him was good, and I did get the position. Then I never heard from him again and I've had 4 or 5 different recruiters whose names I could not tell you if I tried since then. There's supposed to be monthly calls, they never happen.
