Pros

I worked as a technical recruiter for TEK. The company is mostly comprised of people ages 22-30 which makes for a fun environment if you are in that age group, but also causes concern about the longevity of one’s career. They have a good training program and I felt like my manager and DBO truly did care about me. Within a years’ time you can start making a lot of money as you are highly incentivized by commission/placements. Taught me great business skills right out of college. Had a lot of events to keep work fun (happy hours, sporting events, sales conference, day outings)

Cons

Long hours, consistently grinding (never a slow day). I honestly don't know if TEK has a competitive advantage over other third party employers (same clients, and we seem to pay contractors lower rates). Your success can depend strongly on what skill-set you are aligned to recruit for. Lots of turnover and stress. Seems to truly have a focus on filling the employer’s needs rather than helping out your contractors. You may have to recruit strictly off a job description with no contact with the manager. Bad benefits. Not a lot of options for upward movement besides into sales- flat organization. The recruiting industry has high turnover in general, so I don't think there is much about the actual job duties that can be changed to keep people.

Pros

- Decent pay to start. - Account manager is responsive, engaging, and a serious advocate for you and your contract. - Gain access to Udemy Business to build more skills.

Cons

- The benefits suck. - High recruiter turnover with highly variable experience trying to work with them-- some are good, most are not. - Once you are placed, you will be promised regular meetings and then never hear from the recruiter again. - Trying to find a new contract if you are unhappy with your current placement is nearly impossible and I don't believe they are incentivized to help you move at all. - You have to manually request a raise and depending on how you negotiated your contract, you may or may not have the ability to receive one. - There is a cap to how much they will pay you for the contract so even if you work that position 4 years, once you hit that cap you are stuck. I originally submitted my resume with TekSystems when I had finished my degree and never heard back. Many years later, I was approached on LinkedIn by a TekSystems recruiter for a position and he had no idea I was in the system previously. Working with him was good, and I did get the position. Then I never heard from him again and I've had 4 or 5 different recruiters whose names I could not tell you if I tried since then. There's supposed to be monthly calls, they never happen.
