Pros

Family-like work environment - most people genuinely try to do well, and support each other to get a job done well. Management (in my area) is very family oriented, and promotes good work-life balance even when hours may be long. Job security - even for those that shouldn't have it! Good place to learn about lots of different new (and old) technologies - one of the biggest shops in the area. Plenty of budget for new technology. A good training ground for a motivated young person, a spring-board into the industry if you may. For the most-part, office politics are an optional part of working at TSYS. Company seems to be pretty focused on being green, especially with things that make economic sense, such as not running lights in well-sunlit walkways. Free coffee, ice & tap water. All the toilet paper you can use. No one complains if you take a break.

Cons

Not a good place for young, talented, hard-working individuals. The most talented have little chance of having appropriate salary increases - promotions maybe, salary, no. The only reward for being a top-performing innovator is much more work than your peers. If you want less work, just stop performing as well. Pay is well below industry average, even for the surrounding area within 60 miles. In contrast to the budget for capital projects, budget for salary is very pathetic. Folks brought in with too low a salary vs. talent will never see just compensation. The same holds true with too high a salary vs. talent. Saving real $'s and time is not rewarded, but should be. Family-like work environment - they don't get rid of members that don't contribute! Even after previous layoffs, there is still a lot of dead wood - "retired on the job". I've never been in another work environment where non-performing employees do not risk being fired, whatsoever. The only thing that seems to get you fired is outright lying. Incompetence, stupidity, and laziness typically do not seem to. I feel that a lot of those that are in this situation have not been invested in by management over the years, and just kind of ignored or passed over, rather than either trained, mentored or fired. Poor performers keep the status quo seemingly without analysis of why they are not performing well. Should they be properly trained, mentored, or fired? Very long hours at times. Very resistant to new ways of thinking and new ways of doing things - I believe this is mostly because of the conservative nature of the financial industry
