Pros
Good work-life balance, which may vary a little from department to department. In ours the work-life balance is pretty solid and that's greatly appreciated. I've had to take off decent chunks of some days in the last 1.5 years I've worked here and we've always worked something agreeable out with management and myself. Pretty good pay, oil & gas tends to pay better than most industries for the same role/position. fair on PTO as you start with about 3 weeks. And even though it is a down time for oil as of this review, we do still get some bonuses as well on a yearly basis which is great. In a better year, we get even better bonuses.
Cons
On-call rotations. However, this a con just about anywhere. Being in IT, it's the nature of the beast to have on-call. it's a part of IT life almost everywhere. That and the fact that we do not have 9/80's in my department. I miss the 9/80's from other jobs. Being a smaller company, there are more limited opportunities to advance. However, Talos does a great job of promoting from within.
