Pros

University is major presence in downtown Philadelphia. Benefits are decent and they employ a vast number of teachers, staff & administration. Easy to make office friendships with so many coworkers of various ages groups, diverse backgrounds & differing work histories.

Cons

Like so many companies, it is hindered by inept upper management and office politics of general supervisors looking for promotions. If you are lucky to work in a dept that is drama free, hopefully you will get out before things change. Think of it as a 2 or 3-year stepping-stone to a better job. Any longer than that and the poison will start setting in.

Pros

Beautiful, clean, and conveniently located campus. Great food trucks! Lots of space to go for a walk and clear your head or sit on a bench and look at some trees. Nice benefits.

Cons

Temple is very large and very siloed, so if you work in one department, don't expect to be able to move more easily to another part of the school than you would if you were just a random unknown applicant. Once you start working it will be clear which people there genuinely care about the school and passionately work to make it better, and which once just clock in and clock out and won't do a single thing that's not listed in their official job description. But that's bureaucracy for you!
