Great benefits, but experience depends on department - Assistant Director Temple University Employee Review

Pros

Great benefits--finish your degree for free, good healthcare, fair leave and pension benefits, great (and cheap!) cultural enrichment available right there on campus, great food if you avoid anything by the on-campus food vendor (which is appallingly bad and incredibly overpriced).

Cons

Some of the departments are quite dysfunctional. Most of the time, this is a supervision issue, because supervisors can't be bothered to actually supervise, and laziness/slacking off/not caring has become ingrained into the culture of many departments, such that it's actually easier to do things yourself (that you are not supposed to do) than get the people who ARE supposed to do them to do them.

Pros

Beautiful, clean, and conveniently located campus. Great food trucks! Lots of space to go for a walk and clear your head or sit on a bench and look at some trees. Nice benefits.

Cons

Temple is very large and very siloed, so if you work in one department, don't expect to be able to move more easily to another part of the school than you would if you were just a random unknown applicant. Once you start working it will be clear which people there genuinely care about the school and passionately work to make it better, and which once just clock in and clock out and won't do a single thing that's not listed in their official job description. But that's bureaucracy for you!
