Pros

Great, if you want to be laid off for 5 months while your position is filled by a less qualified candidate who makes significantly less per hour. Some of the job postings will tell you all you need to know, looking for technicians with a b.s and offering $14 an hour

Cons

No travel time paid to prevailing wage projects. Employees billed for use of company trucks. No overtime paid on travel time. Dishonest management-when I was placed on seasonal leave my supervisor reported it as a medical leave to EDD which denied unemployment benefits. No opportunities for additional training or advancement. Does not challenge employees. For example, if you have mostly soil testing experience, you will only do soil testing with no opportunities to learn other materials and methods. Outdated safety policy. Sub-par equipment. New employees are paid well below average for california standards as the wage offered is "the national average".

Pros

You have sustainable hours for construction but there is mandatory overtime (The most I’ve done is 51 hours in a week), they pay you enough to live on, it’s good experience, upper management pays lip service to workers rights, there is genuine concern and regulation from management to provide you an emotionally and physically safe place to work, you’re never really rushed to do your job, and you do have the right to stop work

Cons

You need a degree in engineering or geology to move up and you have to threaten to move offices or take another job to get a pay raise. It’s not unionized.
