Pros
After 3 years or working here the ONLY two pros I can think of are: 1) My skill set as a nurse has vastly grown/improved. 2) Compared to most places around the country the pay is nice. I definitely came to work for the kids and my passion for pediatric nursing.
Cons
Far too many to count honestly. I stayed for so long because I feared finding nothing better. From top to bottom this organization needs an overhaul. In three years I have never seen or met the CEO or any upper level position for that matter. Management is terrible, especially in nursing, as everyone is each other’s friend, went to school together, or are apart of some sorority. A lot of unqualified people in leadership positions from my experience. I’ve overheard conversations of management talking to more favored nurses promising them promotions and higher level positions if they just “give them their resume”. Once I saw them open a position, tell only a clearly favored nurse, and as soon as they applied they took down the position. It’s just silly. As a whole this company is very sexist, ageist, prejudiced against LGBTQ+ employees, and the culture is very “who you know”. I may have learned a lot during my employment here, but I wonder if it’s worth it from all of the stress and mental/emotional abuse I had to experience. Never in all of my time as a nurse have I dreaded going to work in a daily basis because of my management and coworkers. It’s very clique-y here and they will instill fear in you if you don’t immediately bow to the will of those “in charge”. During my employment here my mother passed away and my manager called and harassed me about when I was going to be coming back to work without even a simple “I am sorry for your loss”. HR here is not much better. They don’t ever assist in fixing situations like I have described above and if they do get involved it ends up in a very retaliatory situation that just ends up getting the plaintiff in more trouble. I could say more, but I think I have said quite enough. I wouldn’t recommend anyone work here....unless you want to get the skills that a “top ranked” hospital can provide....and I likely would never seek employment again in the future even if it was my last option.
