Pros

Employees get a 40% discount on clothing, it's a fairly easy job to have during college and helps you buy otherwise expensive clothes at a huge discount. It's great to work with customers and help them create the outfits they are looking for. Building relationships with customers and developing skills as a salesperson are a huge plus. There are always employees who can help cover a shift if you need it, and almost always more shifts to pick up. Buckle has been VERY flexible with my hours over the years. The company itself is doing great and will go far.

Cons

Management in the Madison, WI stores has been poor for years. We have high performing (sales) stores and do great in getting product out the door. However, employee turnover is high, morale is low, and employees are not treated with respect. The casual atmosphere leads to almost no standards in terms of what is not appropriate to be discussed in the work place -- often times the inappropriate conversations are led and used by managers. Very uncomfortable working environment when stories of sexual escapades, sexual orientation/racial slurs, and belittling employees comes directly from store managers.

Pros

-Good work-life balance. -Team-building is encouraged. -The experience can vary by location. -Buckle has the potential to have some of the best retail teams, depending on the store. -There are opportunities for growth and career advancement for employees who have supportive leadership.

Cons

Management's willingness to lead, communicate effectively, and support employees is what creates opportunities for growth, but that was not my experience at this location. I felt the work environment was negatively affected by inconsistent communication, a leadership style that felt overly controlling, and discussions about employees that appeared to undermine teamwork and trust. I believe a more respectful, supportive, and collaborative approach to leadership would create a healthier workplace culture and better support both employees and the overall success of the store.
