Pros

- 40 percent discount on clothing - if you can sell here any other clothing retail job should be a breeze - easy to get hired

Cons

A reality show could be made about this place. Lots of back-stabbing, emotional breakdowns, out of control egos, pressure from superiors. They expect A LOT from their sales people -often teen-agers or early 20-somethings with little experience. They must sell hard to several customers at once, keep their "zone" clean and tidy, constantly re-arrange and re-design sales area; show each customer many products and not take "no" for an answer; word sales pitches in the exact way the company says to and if you vary that according to your personality or the personality of the customer you "evaluated" on that. This company makes it all so much more complicated than it needs to be. Super high turnover because they expect so much from young kids with little positive coaching/teaching. Instead there's a lot of "gotcha!" moments where team mates try to "catch" other team-mates "doing it wrong." Don't provide teammates with the structure to make any sort of impact or contribute ideas. Instead teammates are dictated to by managers, district or corporate employees and are not consulted for their ideas or insight.

Pros

-Good work-life balance. -Team-building is encouraged. -The experience can vary by location. -Buckle has the potential to have some of the best retail teams, depending on the store. -There are opportunities for growth and career advancement for employees who have supportive leadership.

Cons

Management's willingness to lead, communicate effectively, and support employees is what creates opportunities for growth, but that was not my experience at this location. I felt the work environment was negatively affected by inconsistent communication, a leadership style that felt overly controlling, and discussions about employees that appeared to undermine teamwork and trust. I believe a more respectful, supportive, and collaborative approach to leadership would create a healthier workplace culture and better support both employees and the overall success of the store.
