Pros
I am a current, extremely happy employee of The Dedham Group and the progressively negative reviews on this website are making me feel a bit sick. I advise that anyone reading those rather slanderous reviews consider the fact that they are from employees that worked at the company for less than a year – suggesting more of a ‘fit’ issue than anything else. This was my first job out of graduate school and I do not think I could have been luckier. I will preface the following review with my personality type, which I think closely describes the clear majority of employees here: -Eager to be challenged, work hard and put in the hours required to achieve goals -Aims to grow as a thinker and excel at proficiency as quickly as possible -Desires to help the company meet the goals of the partners through growth and a positive, inspiring work environment -Asks a never-ending slew of questions to pressure-test all possible scenarios and outcomes Due to our smaller size and unique focus in the biologics space, the projects that we do here are tough - they require critical thinking and a common goal to deliver excellence to our clients. Starting as an analyst, you will have the opportunity to be an important part of each project and learn quickly, as I did. Unlike other consulting firms, the work we do on each project is unique and tailored to the specific ask of the client. There is a steep learning curve due to the smaller size of teams, which is a dream for someone looking to dive head-first into the working world. The environment is intellectually stimulating, supported by both the class of work we do and the types of question-asking and conversations facilitated by project managers and the partners. You work directly with upper-management and the partners on a regular basis, enabling your exposure to experienced minds and the opportunity to learn directly from the experts. The management here is supportive and eager to teach. Since day 1, my many questions (which in academia were commonly found annoying) are met with attention, consideration, and well thought-out responses. I have a rather extreme sense of respect for the management here, as they are some of the most intelligent, hard-working, and considerate people I have met in life thus far. They support each employee’s drive for accomplishment and provide undivided attention when looked to for guidance. Every day, I feel faced with a different intellectual challenge and every night, I leave feeling like I learned something that brought me a step closer to being the expert in the field that I want to be. The therapeutic space in which we focus much of our work is constantly changing and, therefore, fascinating. Having been strongly interested in the medical field but unsure if becoming a doctor was the right choice, this ended up being a perfect fit for me. The work we do is on the cutting edge of treatment development and applies many of the problem-solving skills utilized in the medical industry today. I have always been an earnest learner and my drive to obtain in-depth, new knowledge is thoroughly met here. Some of my closest friends are fellow employees of TDG and some of newest mentors are both TDG colleagues and management. We have a common passion for excellence and distinct list of goals at all times. We are driven, quick thinkers and respect each other. We work hard and grow together. We hang out at happy hours and on weekends of our own accord. That is the true TDG, and I believe anyone that gets the opportunity to work here should absolutely take advantage of it.
Cons
As you prove yourself and work toward gaining more responsibility, you will be granted with such. The hours can get longer, but the work becomes more fulfilling. If you are someone who prefers more of a 9am-5pm job, or is not cut out for the long hours and increasing pressure, Consulting as a discipline is probably not the best choice for you.
