Pros
I have been with the company 6 years now from security to administration. There is always room for advancement if you want it. Security always has overtime available, one free meal a day, benefits aren't bad. Correctional Officer appreciation week is nice (last company never did anything.) Pay could be better, but is good for our area and depends on contracts with the clients and union if you have one. Policy and procedure are there for all areas, they just need to be followed. Detainees are pre-trial so they tend to behave.
Cons
Hard work and doing extra to keep on top of the high expectations is not usually acknowledged or appreciated. Expect you to work on your days off and after hours often even if you're salary but don't require the same from other supervisors who should be doing so. Supervisors expect the moon and the stars while other employees collect a paycheck for sitting on their butt. Too many requirements and not enough hours in the day, or staff to complete tasks the way they want them to be done. Incoming staff are usually young kids with 0 work ethic; they see all of the work that needs to be done and quit or spend their shift gossiping or fighting between each other. Unsafe work environment due to staff being complacent.
