Pros

My co-workers who suffer through this with me.

Cons

Security officers introduce contraband to the facility and engage in romantic relationships with inmates. When reported to administration nothing is done. Security staff is also so short staffed that the inmates are often locked in leaving them agitated and resentful. All of this makes for an unsafe work environment for others. HR is a joke. Paychecks are often wrong so you have to be mindful to check your stub every week. Employees are eligible for a small 2% raise contingent on a positive performance evaluation, but HR can’t even make sure you get it on time. On more than one occasion I’ve had to wait more than a month for my yearly raise. Administrations never goes into the actual facility and therefore have no idea what happens in the institution, they don’t even take the time to learn your name or even a simple thank you for going above and beyond your job duties. Throughout the entire pandemic they’ve constantly downplayed the number of COVID cases in the facility. To date I’ve received maybe 6 e-mails tops regarding COVID cases.

Pros

You're able to learn a lot about what the job offers. Always something new, which is good for the position.

Cons

A lot of the things that needed to be fixed were beyond your control, and working with corporates, sometimes you have to fight for what you want.
