Pros

Marginally Better than Unemployment Benefits

Cons

Lower & mid-level management is comprised of dangerously ignorant lackeys who treat their little piece of the big Hartford pie as their personal fiefdoms. Woefully ignorant of industry, governmental and statutory practices, regulations and laws, they make up their own rules based upon nothing but the need to appear smarter than their employees. Unfortunately, in my experience, they are not. Best Practices are a joke that, according to mid-management, can be changed to favor individually cherished employees at any given time. There are not actually any firm rules - and this company is a whistle-blowers dream. I have a disability which went undiagnosed for several years. When I was finally diagnosed and treatment was prescribed, I was very proud of the fact that the most obvious symptoms of my disability were brought under control. I actually had an Employee Relations rep refer to my much-improved symptoms on THREE occasions as "excuses for your bad behaviors". I have personally been slandered, libeled and generally lied to and about by a manager with deep insecurities and what I suspect tobbe a vicious and malignant personality disorder. I have gone to our Compliance when this manager has placed our customers' funds at risk - with absolute proof of her negligence and purposeful violations of practices meant to keep our investors' funds secure. Nothing is EVER done. The less knowledgeable/competent employees are actually rewarded for their incompetence, and given the most in-depth and important tasks on which to work - tasks at which they must invariably fail. However, managers here are most supportive of the lesser talented employees because their ineptitude makes the managers appear talented by comparison. The Hartford is a study in the Peter Principle at work. Perhaps you are aware that The Hartford has been named "One of the Most Ethical Companies" by The Ethisphere Institute for the 11th year in a row. Ethisphere is a for-profit company that sends out a survey to companies that request it. The COMPANIES fill out their answers, they are named as "Most Ethical" and pay a $10,000 fee to use Ethisphere's logo and tag line. Do ethical companies actually have to PAY to be named "ethical"? There is so much toxicity, discrimination and all-around dirty tactics at play at this company. Don't work here. And for goodness' sake, don't trust them with your $$$$$!!!!!!
