The largest con I can think of, is the ruse of promotion. I saw many qualified candidates passed over for other people who fit an HR tally mark more than they fit the skill sets. You also have to spend 10 hours a day in Walmart or food accounts wearing a utility blade on your hip. Think about that. Stocking displays, fighting inept managers over the same issues week after week, with nothing to show for it but the same hourly check the slackers get. And this is if your lucky to get a good territory! Heaven forbid you are moved from your home and placed in some boondock location with a terrible district manager- good luck getting promoted. THIS IS NOT A SALES ROLE. You are placed into these territories under the guise of "sales consultants," to forward sell promotions, and by forward sell, I mean grab a pallet jack and haul 800lbs of candy to some spot in electronics. You also are there to basically teach Econ 101 to dept managers. Hershey, PA may be dubbed the "sweetest place on earth," but this job is anything but "sweet." Once you get over the first few months of eagerness and positivity, you realize you are not accomplishing anything, and if you are, all you get is "atta-boys" and likes on Yammer. My advice if you are considering this job, is really think about what else is out there, because if you are qualified and want to be compensated for your personal efforts, there are many other better options if you are interested in sales, real sales.
