Oh no! We don’t want anyone at NECC to feel disposable. Our students and staff are our priority, and we place a lot of importance on professional development so that staff know they are valued and can progress in their career. It’s not easy to replace our dedicated staff - you learn advanced skills in assessment, direct care, teaching, de-escalation, and more. As we’ve stated before, we truly believe our staff are the best in the field. NECC runs an organizational planning meeting every week to review current positions in the organization and review career growth pathways. If you have a specific career path you would like to follow, please let us know, either via your supervisor or by reaching out directly to me. We can provide additional support and advice on what is necessary to achieve your goals. Pros

The kids are the best part. It's good for those who have little to no experience. They pay for a masters degree.

Cons

Lead Teachers have no training in managing people. The lead teacher sits at the desk all day on their phone, eating and micromanaging. It's not really a school schedule. You must be present for 8 hours even if the kids are not there, and you have no other work to do. You get only 2 random weeks off in the summer. The pay is not worth it.

Thank you for sharing your perspective. We are grateful for the direct care staff who work with our students every day to bring out their potential. Our lead teachers have many administrative responsibilities, working with each student's team of clinicians, parents, and liaisons that may not be visible to other staff. However, if you have performance concerns about your lead teacher, please share it with your clinical supervisor. Thank you for all you do!
