Pros

Health insurance, sick time and holidays.

Cons

If you work in a science field and do not have a PhD you are treated like a second class citizen. Favoritism, nepotism and abuse ran rampant in the department where I worked and the supervisor was a massively dishonest sycophant who would throw any of us staff members under the bus to kiss up to the dept chair. Active discrimination by supervisor on annual reviews directed toward me while other staff members did far less work and falsified their time cards since there was not an actual time clock. No advancement opportunities and no professional development in the department. Abysmal place to work with supervisor retaliation for taking time off during semester.

Pros

Many resources available for various types of studies

Cons

Unless your PI is tapped into the research community, the resources are spread out and difficult to find. The overall support from the University to PIs is limited. Those individuals in positions of authority are more concerned with their own optics than with supporting those who need it.
