Mixed Feelings after working here for half a decade - Graduate Teaching Associate The Ohio State University Employee Review

Pros

Good group of people to work with, decent hours, working with students is fantastic

Cons

When it all boils down, you get less than minimum wage and the university takes every opportunity to drain your already meager paycheck. Also, taught a course this summer and because of an administrative error ended up having to pay back my stipend. I did eventually get it back again (after a ton of bureaucratic nonsense), but imagine waking up one morning after already completing your contract and finding out that your employer has now taken your labor for free and charged you for the privilege.

Pros

Many resources available for various types of studies

Cons

Unless your PI is tapped into the research community, the resources are spread out and difficult to find. The overall support from the University to PIs is limited. Those individuals in positions of authority are more concerned with their own optics than with supporting those who need it.
