Pros

Ohio State offers the best of the traditional Research I University - Midwestern culture, consistent focus on academic excellence. The compensation when compared to peer institutions (Big 10 schools) is quite reasonable. Treatment of graduate students varies greatly by department, but I have found that the University as a whole provides numerous opportunities for graduate students to prepare themselves for future research careers.

Cons

As with any public university, the pressure of the state and federal budget on the institution is continual. There is significant concern that salaries for faculty and graduate student stipends will not be competitive with private institutions and industry.

Pros

Great work life balance and accessible management

Cons

There are not many cons to working with the university except the pay was slightly lower than other competitive wages.

Pros

Many resources available for various types of studies

Cons

Unless your PI is tapped into the research community, the resources are spread out and difficult to find. The overall support from the University to PIs is limited. Those individuals in positions of authority are more concerned with their own optics than with supporting those who need it.
