Pros
Great scientists that are willing to help. Both LaJolla and Jupiter are great places to live and have nice campus environments. Equipment is top rate. Collaborations are encouraged and there is a good deal of accademic freedom. From what I have seen, pay at Scripps seems to be higher than at universities.
Cons
YOU MUST!!!!!! fund yourself and your group. There is no teaching or administrative role to fall back on. Even with tenure, if you cannot fund your group 100%, your position is not safe. Startup packages tend to be short (3-4 yr), not a big deal for established labs, but a challenge for Jr faculty.
