Pros

My Coworkers were very nice. In theory the ESOP is really egalitarian and once every year when we were reminded of our shared interest, we felt like a team. In the Surety vertical there are always interesting, challenging projects that build your repertoire, but they get a little redundant since we're not really building and a lot of Vertex new-hires in Surety are brought on from General Contractors. If you're a young person that finds value in work for work's sake alone, then you'll be able to hold out for a while. It definitely builds your patience!

Cons

Employees feel expendable Compensation seems standard at the onset, but it stagnates very quickly with no benchmark for bonuses or other incentives. There doesn't seem to be much alignment in strategic planning from management on down the chain of command. Very impersonal on the hiring/firing: one of my employees (direct report) was let go by a superior without my knowledge, when I was traveling. No Career Development, and I don't mean online power point training. Certifications, Continuing Education, Getting Licensed; all things that sound like a great idea when you bring them up to your manager - but are not offered to employees. Investment in your education, and increasing the know-how/services of the firm, is only seen as a cost (the only development here is acquisition)

Pros

Remote work, revised PTO and benefits recently.

Cons

The Vertex Companies talks a lot about performance-based pay, but the follow-through isn’t there. I exceeded expectations, had strong client relationships, and solid support from leadership—yet the merit increase felt like a slap in the face. When you’re told compensation is tied to performance but see little difference between average and high performers, it raises real concerns about how employees are valued. The company appears far more focused on protecting margins and pleasing shareholders than rewarding the people driving the work. It’s disappointing, because strong performance should be recognized in a meaningful way—not minimized.
