Pros

Insurance, Benefits, Paid holidays

Cons

If you have another job opportunity, do NOT join VERTEX. The company does not care about their employees; the only important thing is their benefits. I worked 50 hrs and billed 40 hrs. Although I was overloaded with a bunch of projects, the company decided to lay me and many others off to get benefits from the government COVID-19 stimulus package. I am pretty sure their clients and projects were not affected by this pandemic yet. Even my direct manager was not aware of their decision. They encouraged me to come to VERTEX and leave my previous secure job by telling me too many so-called benefits, but now they left me alone without providing a single reason for this decision.

The Vertex Companies Response

We appreciate the opportunity to respond to your review. Though we understand the disappointment and frustration you feel now overshadows your initial excitement and enthusiasm when you joined The Vertex Companies, this was difficult to read. These are unprecedented and uncertain times. The many careful decisions the VERTEX leadership team has made, particularly the ones impacting the lives of our people and their families, have been the most difficult and painstaking. We have taken extensive precautions to keep our people safe and healthy. In an effort to retain as many of our employees as possible we are redistributing projects and redeploying talent throughout the company. As an organization of approximately 500 hard-working employees we are committed to considering every viable, rational and measured approach to avoid further reductions in force. These decisions are not based solely on one factor or incentive, but with deeper consideration of current state, and the impacts of future forces including those outside of our control. Any decision we must make, especially the difficult decision to lay someone off, is not made lightly or without careful, deliberate and genuine concern for all.

Pros

Remote work, revised PTO and benefits recently.

Cons

The Vertex Companies talks a lot about performance-based pay, but the follow-through isn’t there. I exceeded expectations, had strong client relationships, and solid support from leadership—yet the merit increase felt like a slap in the face. When you’re told compensation is tied to performance but see little difference between average and high performers, it raises real concerns about how employees are valued. The company appears far more focused on protecting margins and pleasing shareholders than rewarding the people driving the work. It’s disappointing, because strong performance should be recognized in a meaningful way—not minimized.
