Pros

No bros to working here.

Cons

-Work 60hrs to bill 40hrs. -Zero training and expected to complete quality reports in an unrealistic time frame. They do not even give you a chance to learn the process before they start demanding you pound them out. -Division manager decided he was not going to show up to the office anymore, so I was on an island at home and demanded I do things without even explaining how to do them. He was never able to give me direction and constantly made changes destroying production. -Got a call at 12:30a.m on a Friday night from the division manager demanding that I work the weekend because I did not complete a report template that I had set on his desk a week and a half before and was gas lighted telling me that it was all my fault. -Called off sick one day and was called up by the division manager and asked to work. -Division manager worked until 2:00a.m most nights sending out emails and texts because of how disorganized he was and expected employees to work his crazy schedule. - It felt like I was always at work as he constantly called my personal phone instead of my work phone during after hours. - Demand that you log every minute of every second of what your doing on your time sheet and will make it seem like it is your fault when you do not have enough billable hours and need to charge your time to overhead. - Division manager revealed to me that he had a heart monitor on due to working all these extensive hours and told me that he had stock in the company and that and that was the reason for the crazy hours and demanding employees work just as hard as him who had no stake in the company. -Final straw is when I had to go to the ER because I was having chest pains and deep breathing due to all the stress. Had to get my hurt checked out. When I returned from the hospital after taking two days off it seemed like he could care less and started pounding me with work that same day before I could catch up and get it together. This had never happened to me before. I never had a heart condition. -Received no support from other employees in the office it seemed they just wanted to compete and was set up to fail by one of them and then thrown under the bus when he contacted my boss instead of just asking me first about mistakes on a report that he gave me not direction on. -Company was in the middle of an acquisition and was told that I may not have my job in the next few month. -This is a turn and burn place people if you want to be treated like a slave then this is the place for you. I honestly have no idea how they have any good reviews.I talked to a recruiter in the industry and he had told me that he had dealt with many people that had worked at Vertex and had a similar story to mine.

Let me first thank you for taking the time to share your experience. I know that you shared honestly in your exit interview and while I know the communication with your manager broke down, we very much appreciated your sharing your thoughts. Our goal is to be aware of our employees' experience and do all we can to improve as we grow. I do also want to let you and others know that this is not the experience being reported by our other 700+ employees with VERTEX. Do we work hard, move with urgency for our clients, and do whatever it takes? Absolutely. Are we continually developing our manager-employee communication and connection to support our employees? Yes. We also offer many, many training, benefits, and employee work life and career focused programs to support our employees. Our Lifetime of Learning program offers a vast variety of learning options, and we are continually improving our new hire, employee, and people manager training. We also offer a hybrid work environment to allow some flexibility for our employees and their non-work life; schedules and work-locations are based on the needs of the client, employee, team, and management. All of our efforts are focused on creating a workplace that supports our employees and clients. We do grow through acquisition as well as organically and that growth offers greater opportunity and cross-over career options for our existing and new team members. Again, while I'm very sorry that your experience was not what we would have wanted for you, your manager, or team we will continue to do all we can to improve. I encourage you to reach out to me directly if you have other thoughts on how we can improve. You can reach me directly at edavies@vertexeng.com. Thank you again. Erin Davies, Chief People Officer

Cons

The Vertex Companies talks a lot about performance-based pay, but the follow-through isn’t there. I exceeded expectations, had strong client relationships, and solid support from leadership—yet the merit increase felt like a slap in the face. When you’re told compensation is tied to performance but see little difference between average and high performers, it raises real concerns about how employees are valued. The company appears far more focused on protecting margins and pleasing shareholders than rewarding the people driving the work. It’s disappointing, because strong performance should be recognized in a meaningful way—not minimized.
