Pros

Unlimited income potential through sales commissions. Ability to build your own practice and write your own schedule, but only after you've successfully built a sustainable client base. Strong mission and values of inspiring generosity in our communities. Incredible bonuses and recognition programs.

Cons

Support from leadership is inconsistent. You're on your own. Brand-recognition is still building and is mostly related to life insurance sales. High pressure to sell proprietary life insurance, health insurance and annuities. Many unfulfilled promises by leadership. Hard to respect that. Culture of "what have you done for me lately." Not many career advancement opportunities. Few opportunities for collaboration. Other advisors can be territorial.

Pros

- Excellent culture and people - Work life balance is better than any place I've ever worked; people work hard but support each other - Several fully remote opportunities - Competitive salary - Fantastic benefits: Still have a pension, generous 401(k) match, decent health benefits, PTO and a handful of paid holidays - Annual Incentive Plan is a huge draw

Cons

- Annual review and AIP weighting process is imperfect - You can "Meet expectations" but still earn less than your full AIP percentage because someone else in your department is a top performer - Frequent reorgs/restructures leave sense of unease; leadership announcements provide no concrete explanations and are very boilerplate - Rising up individual contributor job ladder is straight-forward but eventually most leadership positions are external and friends of other leaders ...
