Pros
They've been around since 1837 and will be around a lot longer, so you don't have to worry about them disappearing. The discount program is good, but many people end up giving back too much of their pay back to their employer!
Cons
In reading so many of the reviews, I am struck by how so many of the comments mirrror my own experiences. Retail management is very unprofessional and treats employees like expendible commodoties. Doesn't appear that they are supervised very closely because they are always taking days off or leaving the store for hours at a time (could they be doing personal things?). Sales people are constantly bickering over petty issues, partly because managers do not set limits, enforce rules or discipline anyone for anything. They are very good at setting unrealistic sales plans that only add fuel to the backstabbing and often ruthless behavior. They make you feel guilty if you take sick days or need to leave early for your child's graduation, etc. (after all, "you haven't made your sales plan yet..."). Decision-making is inconsistent and leads employees to feel powerless and stupid--no matter what you do it will probably be wrong. Career advancement is given lipservice only. HR is nonexistent, but are consulted when someone needs to be put on warning or fired. Morale stinks and most everyone feels underappreciated and underpaid, which they are. And nothing changes.
