Short term thinking
Afraid of their own technology experts so they ignore them
Financially over burdened with over payed management positions while underpaying their subject matter experts
Upper management has a culture of promoting and protecting “yes men” even when they commit sexual harassment and have almost no expertise in what their departments do. Particularly true in the area of desktop support
Discourage and actively avoid open discussion about any subject
C-suite is very out of touch with the times: they do not understand management development and spend no time or money on it, they do not protect employees from predatory managers of all types. Because of this there is very little team work. Everyone is always worried about who will cut who’s throat.
Doug Yearly couldn’t be less interested in developing a healthy corporate culture, he’s just interested in buying awards and forcing the employee base to fill out non-confidential reviews.
They recently let go of many many IT workers in favor of bring in an outside vendor to handle intricate IT issues that only a fellow employee would care about. This made the managers lives much easier once again (something they are committed to because the managers barely show up twice a week) but this plunged all the Toll workers into an IT hell situation. This occurred because for some reason the C-suite doesn’t listen to the few god managers and only cares about cost cutting. This shows thru all the way to their homes which most Toll employees wouldn’t buy due to poor value of finished product.
