Pros

Some awesome people work there, but that’s true anywhere

Cons

This company is strictly top-down, so there’s not much room for doing anything besides what the CEO wants (he throws tantrums during meetings and seems to lack self awareness and emotional intelligence) Any ideas that aren’t in line with his perspective (the perspective of a wealthy white cis-hetero man) are unwelcome The company seems to be opposed to diversity and inclusion, which dovetails with the lack of openness to new or different ideas Employee surveys that gauge how happy people are at the company are not anonymous, and people who are unhappy for any reason or those who might disagree with the way things are done are more likely to be fired than heard It is obvious from their ongoing struggle to attract and retain talent for their freelance pool as well as internal employment that their unwillingness to adapt to a changing environment is not a successful business strategy Nobody has really heard of this company, so it’s not even a good name to have on a resume They brag about providing talent for big name companies but those companies source from a lot of places, so this doesn’t make Toptal special Probably a decent place to work if you’re a white cisgendered heterosexual man who fits into a rigid organisational structure, doesn’t ask too many questions, and finds comfort in thinking exclusively inside the box.

Pros

Toptal has been my favorite place to work so far! • The flexibility of remote work is amazing. • I’ve had the chance to work with fantastic clients. • The internal team is supportive, talented, and a pleasure to work with.

Cons

Sometimes it can take a bit longer to find a new engagement if you’re looking for opportunities in Asian time zones. In my experience, Europe and the Americas tend to have more opportunities and faster matching.

Pros

Met some good dedicated employees and freelance workers.

Cons

Lack of any real industry solutions or capabilities since 100% of delivery services are freelance contractors. Model has been successful as providing staff augmentation to clients, but all intellectual capital and outcomes are owned by the clients or the freelancer. Toptal is simply a staffing platform broker who marks up the freelance talent. Great if you need a plumber, but not if you're planning to build a bathroom.
