Pros

Team members are usually good people, and are willing to help you. Hourly team members, that is. The mission statement is a good idea and a good purpose.

Cons

Management is backstabbing, has a high turnover, and has unrealistic expectations for their entry level managers. If you're a team leader, you're basically a salesman without commission. Each store picks captains for specific sales items, and you are responsible for your team hitting those numbers with no bonus if you hit them (or praise from your bosses), but hit with immediate action if the store doesn't meet them. No system of accountability because of this, all in the the store is supposed to be run by the store manager but all the other managers are pretty much there to take the heat for the store manager when things don't go the right way and it's never their fault when something goes wrong in the store. Team Leaders are absolutely worked to death for 10 bucks an hour and get no help from upper management. They bring you in with the idea that they respect your ideas and are looking for new ways to become more efficient, yet chastise you for having new ideas. Everything at the store level is run by corporate, and none of it makes any sense at all. You get a certain amount of time to set end caps, but you will have 10 endcaps come due on the same day (all the responsibility of the team lead 1 with NO help), with only 2 other people in the store (one to run the register, so they can't leave the front of the store) and one that stocks the feed (that has to be stocked 100% before you leave), and you are reprimanded if the end caps are not done by said date, even though corporate will not allow you to look at planograms for the endcaps until the day they're due. On top of all that, if the endcaps aren't done when the DM does a walk through, you get a hit on your store visit which will cause your store manager to come down on you again. Company set up is a joke.

Pros

You can count on getting biweekly paychecks.

Cons

Words do not exist to adequately describe just how dysfunctional the FAST organization has become. The problem isn’t the people—it’s the structure. Every level of FAST is treated as second-class by Operations, but the hourly FTMs bear the brunt of it. They’re expected to execute impossible workloads while navigating resistance, conflicting priorities, and a complete lack of operational ownership. FAST leadership regularly talks about holding stores and Operations accountable. Yet the moment accountability creates friction or invites criticism, they retreat instead of standing behind their teams. The result is predictable: the people doing the work lose confidence that anyone above them will support them when it matters most. A department cannot succeed when it has responsibility without authority, accountability without support, and expectations without organizational commitment. That’s the reality of FAST today. It’s not just disappointing—it’s unsustainable.
