Pros

Great benefits, higher end of the pay scale for the job, theoretically a lot of room for opportunity due to the size of the company and level of specialities, but this is heavily manager/connection dependent.

Cons

You used to be able to feel how much Travelers (or at least our department) cared about its employees, but things have been declining rapidly for the past year or two and AI implementation is only accelerating it. They are shoving AI down our throats. You get bonus points for taking time on nights/weekends to create "TravAI prompts" that are really only useful for training AI on how to do the job because of how much faster it is to do the task yourself instead of fighting to get the right info. They're tracking and forcing individual AI usage seemingly company-wide. We closed call centers in favor of AI agents, we're leaning more on WNS partners in India, and they continue to increase workloads and expected speed of handling at the same rate, making things impossible to keep up with without coming in early/staying late/working weekends. We've had multiple big retirements with no intention of replacing some people, and a few firings (seemingly more on the way) again with no job postings to go along with them, just expecting the rest of us to pickup the extra workload. Dark times at Claim University.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
