Pros
Travelers can be a great place to be if you don't mind a tremendous amount of politics. As with other companies, there are certain people "on the fast track" for promotion, often undeserving of it. If you get in with the right group, you're golden. The pay is above-average but this is because the work load is extremely unrealistic.
Cons
In theory the training program is great but the new employees don't get to take advantage of a full program due to the workload. Recently, some new hires received claims their very first day with the company! Travelers has unrealistic expectations on workload and Senior management has no clue what working the desk is really like as they so far removed from daily activity. In reality, working one claim, up to Travelers' standards, could take the better part of a full workday, so imagine getting multiple claims per day, which is what happens. Senior management does not value the unit managers. Great demands are placed on them, and even more on their time. The managers are always in a meeting, or taken away from their desks and when they are there, get bombarded with employee questions. It is not uncommon for the unit managers to work until 11pm or later each evening, and the weekends. There simply is no work-life balance if you want to succeed here. Lastly, upper management does not support unit managers when dealing with other employee issues. All employees are terrified of the claim center VP as well.
