Pros
Without of doubt it would be the biggest company asset, the people that you work with. Depends on which Line of Business you happen to work for. Some lines of business really encourage innovation and want you to be creative and succeed no matter if you fail. In spite of all its flaws, Travelers is a decent place to start a career for new and young employees seeking exposure to different areas of technology. However, there is a BUT (see below).
Cons
My line of business and my area in particular reminded me of a high school click. If you didn't belong or follow the group then you were looked as an outsider in a sense. Too much upper management turnover (re-orgs, organizational shifts, so many changes in philosophies) and I felt they had unrealistic expectations but since they are our senior leadership, we would do everything in our power to fulfill their requests. Even when they left, we stayed behind to fix the broken pieces. Management is inconsistent. Some lines of business are vested in their employees' work life and encourage a positive balance. So, requesting flexible work arrangements is a simple process. BUT (again) not every line of business will work with you. Even though it is a good starting point for new and young employees, the pay rate and benefits are on the lower side compared to some of the other insurers in the area. Older employees (again in my line of business) are not given the proper respect that they have earned and teams get reduced and they get swamped with a lot more responsibilities than they already have. This makes is seem that they are being pushed out the door to get younger and cheaper talent. Remember, other companies will offer a more competitive salary and benefits package.
