Pros

Travelers is a great place to work. There's plenty of opportunities to get involved in various activities- whether projects at work or in the community. They also seem to have taken a greater interest in employee growth/development over the past year or so. It's a great culture, and the demands of the job are balanced and very reasonable; many friends have joined from other companies and they've been completely surprised by the willingness of others to help, the work/life balance, and openness of management.

Cons

For a company that makes its money dealing with unknown, the company is surprisingly risk averse in many ways. And I guess being in insurance, it's not a surprise that we're not always cutting-edge when it comes to its policies or technology.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
