Pros

Many people, from front-line subject matter experts to senior leaders, are very giving of their time and experience if asked. offers a pension plan positive changes seem to be under construction; senior leadership inspires confidence in understanding the issues and recognizing necessary changes

Cons

good old boys culture - despite recent trend toward diversity networks and language around diversity, middle-aged and older white men still unambiguously run the show. fewer leaders from different backgrounds means fewer available, respected, and experienced mentors for non-white and/or female employees means disadvantages for those employees and less support navigating the entrenched cliques. Change is painfully slow. When change happens, sometimes the communication is excellent, at other times it's quite poor. Inconsistent support for flex scheduling and remote work, even when situations are similar, based on individual manager personal preference Insensitivity surrounds layoffs and firing; lack of respectful, dignified treatment arrogant culture - Travelers is better just because it is Travelers and the people who have been at Travelers the longest are the smartest and most capable and everyone else should just be quiet and do what they're told until they've been here 30 years and then maybe they'll have something to add While senior leadership inspires confidence in understanding issues, middle management does not inspire confidence in a willingness and ability to execute.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
