Pros

Compensation decent, pension, 401k Match, Stock Grants, Bonus

Cons

I personally observed numerous occasions where "friends" are pulled into the company and placed into positions they are not qualified to hold. There is a difference between manager and leader - too many "leaders" focused on insignificant details. Lack of big picture leadership. Leaders in IT who have never been involved in IT before, unable to understand the technology stack, unable to move the technology stack forward. Ancient technology in many areas of the company. TOO much process. They add more and more process - It takes 3 weeks to get one line of code into a system for testing. If you enjoy programming, do not come here. There is a reason they pay multi-million dollar contracts to software vendors. We can't get the work done, leads to apathy and boredom. Small to mid size projects last YEARS. "You are lucky to have a job" message is constant.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
