Pros

The people at Travelers are great. While I worked there I saw a lot of teaming to get the job done. The benefits are very good.

Cons

Performance expectations are extremely high. It is almost impossible to get a promotion unless you are "married" to your job, unless you are liked by upper management. The workload is generally too much for one person to get the tasks accomplished in the time frames established by the company, especially if you are an hourly employee. The constant meetings do not help & the stress level among many employees is extremely high.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
