Pros

If you are a young, single person willing to trade your quality of life for a resume entry that will help market you to another employer, consider working for Travelers. The compensation (if you don't care how many hours you have tow work) and benefits are relatively good.

Cons

The managers are switched around every ten minutes. They make promises that they do not keep. They lie about anything that is convenient for them to lie about. On their best day, they are very dishonest. The performance reviews are nonsense: their goal is to find something to be nasty and critical about, whether it's true or not, just so they don't have to pay you the bonus they know you truly earned.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
