Pros

Travelers is unmatched in living what it preaches in terms of community involvement - plenty of opportunities to get engaged in volunteer activities and/or earn donation money for hours volunteered somewhere of your choosing. Travelers seems to be in a moment of change (though slow) with agile transformations and increased customer centricity. Individuals at Travelers often move through various functions in their careers. This can be great for someone looking to try something new or develop a breadth of experience. At times though, it is concerning that too much emphasis is placed on generic leadership qualities and not sufficient value on specialized skills.

Cons

Travelers risk aversion comes to life in interesting ways - the culture tends to be one of control through collaboration. By expecting an excessive number of inputs, Travelers successfully creates checks and balances that make progress crawl. The culture is one of meetings and lots of running things up and down flag poles. Control is exercised through "collaboration." I suppose a pro of this is that responsibility is so diffuse it could be easy to coast.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
