Pros

Kinda a perfect first job out of college with a good salary, good benefits, and a lot of learning. Teams will be more lenient because they know you're new and learning, get a good introduction to working in the corporate world and a good path to moving up in the company if you want to do that

Cons

The TLDP program specifically changed so much since I started at Travelers which was super confusing. I had no idea what was going on in the program ever, and the assumptions I had when I got my offer letter were completely different than when I started. I honestly just ignored the whole TLDP part and focused on my team and real work since the TLDP was too confusing and kept changing. In case this is helpful, the focus of the program is shifting away from leadership development and towards developing software engineering skills. Also in case this is helpful, teams have people based all around the country so in my opinion going into the office is pointless if all meetings and most interactions are going to be online anyways.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
