Pros

Travelers has great benefits-- 401k, pension, health care options, and plenty of PTO days.

Cons

Travelers preaches flexibility, however, this is not the case. They allow flexibility for certain individuals and fail to do so for others. There is a lack of consistency on multiple levels. Employees are unappreciated. They do not give bonuses and give TINY raises for the work that is performed. If you do well, expect to be given extra work, so you are basically set up to fail. They micromanage most aspects of your job from the phones to adding a participant in the participant screen (which is technically not your responsibility). If you have children or are considering having children--look at another company. They will not work with you to adjust your schedule when it comes to picking up/dropping off or events for your children.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
