Pros

Good benefits but similar to every other company. They do match certain charitable donations. New CEO. Hopefully he will add some new energy.

Cons

Salary is low with the promise of we give bonuses to our top performers - they don't. Extremely long hours, Upper mid-level managers micromanage to justify their existence. Company has a strong belief in a forced bell curve for rating employees and looks for ways to force people out. Your success will depend on your manager liking you and playing a lot of politics. A lot of favoritism. Training is non-existent. Systems are completely outdated as is the decor. If you're over 50 don't bother applying. Once you do apply be ready for enough interviews you will begin to wonder who makes a decision.

Pros

We receive continuous training to stay up to date with new state regulations and market trends. My colleagues make the day go by quickly. The benefits are very reasonable. There is room for career growth if you know how to network. I appreciate their consistent push for community volunteer opportunities.

Cons

The personal lines department seems to be falling apart right now. Issues with the internal systems are resulting in underwriters doing multiple jobs and becoming a dumping ground for all agent issues even if they aren't underwriting related. I don't feel that the directors are truly expressing to the senior leadership team the impact that all these issues are having on the mental health and quality of life for the employees that are on the front lines trying to maintain a good reputation for the company. It's sad to see how quickly this department has gone downhill and the amount of quality underwriters that are jumping ship for different departments or different companies all together. What's even sadder it that no one with authority seems to care, or listen, when concerns are brought forth. I truly advise anyone considering applying for any position within the personal insurance department to hold off until things start to change - it's not worth the mental anguish that you'll experience.
