Paid very little, money and respect - Universal Banker U.S. Bank Employee Review

Pros

You have a chance to help some people with their financial needs when they are in front of you. You also are able to feel like you accomplished something when you bring a loan from start to finish and no one else has helped or supported you along the way.

Cons

You are paid next to nothing. During annual reviews, the ones that determine if you receive a raise or not, they find every possibility to tell you you are doing good but not good enough to warrant a raise. They have outrageous goals that are never met by anyone in the region yet you are told you need to reach those goals every single day. Branch management is usually full of shady salesmen and inept managers who are only in their positions because they never moved on from the bank 10 years ago. There is such high turnover due to low pay and branch management feeling the need to use the little power they have to show who is in charge. The computers are from the 90's so you spend most of your day waiting or resetting a computer.

Pros

The pay is market average, and the benefits are quite good. I love my peers. The vast majority of them are kind and talented people. I truly enjoyed my first several years with the company. Well past the honeymoon period for a new employer. And at the time, I recommended this place to anyone I knew looking for a job.

Cons

Management is a mess from the bottom up. The culture of the company has drastically changed over the last several years because of frequent retirements, layoffs, and reorganizations. Employees I know from across describe the same experience: the company has gone from outstanding culture to one that feels openly hostile to its employees. Management decisions are built like cudgels and enforced through all stick and no carrot.
