U.S. Customs and Border Protection

Engaged Employer

It's a job. It should be a career and an adventure, but it has been degraded to a paycheck. - Offi U.S. Customs and Border Protection Employee Review

Pros

You do get to see things and meet people that you would never believe; suitcases of drugs, jewels, smoked little woodland animals.... and also Presidents, kings, queens, princesses, Prime Ministers, Secretary General or whatever title for chief executive. Occasionally there is a TDY that nobody wants that will send you someplace exotic - in the middle of winter.

Cons

It doesn't matter if you do a good job or a bad job. You'll be rewarded or punished according to the whims of who ever has the power to do so. The level of nepotism and cronyism is unbelievable so if you are not in, you're out. The incompetence that some people get away with will astound you and promote them because they've got the connections and you don't.
