Pros

US Venture is a very friendly company. It is family-owned, with many family-oriented employees, and making money truly seems a secondary concern to community welfare and ethics. Management is for the most part open-minded and flexible. Culture on most teams seems to be very good, where employees are focused but not often stressed or pressured. The Insights and Analytics team has a great manager, Gary, and a great mix of individuals, with good corporate support. It is quite possibly the best data science team to be on in the Appleton area. Appleton is about as cheap for cost of living as you can get in an urban area, and is a family-oriented city as well. For many people, it will be a great place to work. But for me, who likes more excitement and innovation, it was all just a bit boring...

Cons

- Not many young people, aside from a bunch of interns in summer. Most of my teammates could have been my parents. They were quite accepting, but it would have been nice to have someone within a decade of my own age on my team. - While gender balance appears to be good, racial and other diversity is essentially non-existent. And I am speaking as a white male who generally doesn't notice these things. I doubt this is deliberate, more a result of the demographics of Appleton. - Appleton has a more rural culture than most cities. For comparison, Reykjavík, Iceland, which has half the population of Appleton and has even worse weather, has twice the cosmopolitan feel. - Major products are car tires and oil. While the company is doing incredibly well financially, right now, and for the next decade or two I imagine, I am less certain it will be doing well in 50 years as technology changes. Also not a great place for an environmentalist.

Pros

Never had an issue when needing time off.

Cons

Took away our hybrid/remote work opportunity. “Hybrid” is now Fridays only. Loud atmosphere, which is assumed to only get worse after moving to the 222 building. Seems like the “caring relationships” morale no longer exists here.
