Pros
The pay at UCSF as a PCA is great and way better than what it has been at any previous employer. We also have the perk of creating our own schedules and requesting time off is easy, which is really important for me as a student. The environment is excellent as well, many great nurses that are actually very helpful when it comes to turning patients, cleaning and all other ADL's. It is an environment that pushes you to be excellent and I really appreciate that. There are also great benefits at UCSF including retirement plans.
Cons
The work of a PCA can become very stressful when we are short-staffed because you will have a larger patient load. You are still expected to meet all patient needs in a timely manner, but there is much help from nurses so it is bearable.
